Humanware
Innovation
Program

Cultivating outstanding leaders to
establish
an information society
attuned to people and the environment

To become leaders who can transcend their specialty and spearhead interdisciplinary collaboration

The Humanware Innovation Program (HWIP) is designed to cultivate doctoral professionals who can integrate and innovate across disciplines including information science, life sciences, and the cognitive/brain sciences.
While deepening their own expertise, students will engage in in-depth discussions with researchers from other fields, proactively identifying research challenges and driving interdisciplinary collaboration as a team. Through this process, they will develop the ability to generate groundbreaking innovations.

Feature

01

Advancing interdisciplinary research through in-depth discussions

The program emphasizes "jukugi," in which students working in different areas hold discussions and learn from one other. Through conducting interdisciplinary research with students and faculty members from other fields and receiving comprehensive guidance from researchers working in other areas, students deepen their own expertise while acquiring the skills needed to thrive in interdisciplinary domains outside the confines of their specialty.

02

Cultivating industrial and global perspectives

What social value does university research have? What research activities and researcher capabilities are needed by society? Are students able to leverage their knowledge and research abilities globally? Through collaboration with industry, the program provides opportunities to engage with companies, participate in domestic and international internships, and attend academic conferences in Japan and overseas. These experiences help to foster a perspective that extends beyond academia and Japan, fostering a broader, global outlook.

03

Respect for self-motivated students

The program supports students to help them realize their desired learning opportunities and undertake self-directed activities. The program also provides financial support for student-led interdisciplinary research projects and event planning. We hope that students will develop new perspectives and gain a wealth of experience by actively engaging with others on their own initiative.

Curriculum
