Curriculum
Outline
To develop doctoral professionals who can excel in an interdisciplinary environment that encompasses the three fields of information science, life sciences, and the cognitive/brain sciences, the program curriculum includes required subjects, requiring students from different specialties to acquire advanced knowledge in these areas and engage in in-depth discussions. Additionally, the program also offers elective subjects, such as domestic and international internships, entrepreneurship practicums, and interdisciplinary research promotion as a Principal Investigator (PI). Financial support and other forms of assistance are available. Through these subjects, students can acquire a broad range of knowledge and experiences beyond their primary specialization.
To complete this degree program, in addition to the credits required by the graduate school (primary major) to which they belong, students must also earn program-specific credits.

Courses & Exams
Students enrolled in this program are required to gain 12 credits in HW core subjects (required subjects) in addition to the credit requirements of their affiliated graduate school (major). While elective subjects are not required for graduation, participation in these activities is recognized and can earn credits, with financial support available.
The Preliminary Qualifying Examination (Pre-QE) is conducted at the end of the second year, and the Research Qualifying Examination (R-QE) is conducted at the end of the third year. Students must pass these exams to advance in the program. Those who fail the exams are disqualified from further participation in the program, though may continue with their studies at the graduate school (major) to which they belong.

Completion Requirements
Students who have satisfied the requirements for completion of their affiliated graduate school, acquired the credits for the required subjects specified for this program, and passed the Final Qualifying Examination (F-QE) alongside their degree review evaluation, are awarded a degree in their major subject with the additional certification that they have completed the “Humanware Innovation Program” as a participant in the interdisciplinary graduate school program.
